Asian Festival of Children’s Content (AFCC) 2024 Recap May 31 2024
The 15th Asian Festival of Children’s Content (AFCC) took place from 23 to 26 May 2024 at the National Library Building, Singapore. The theme of the event was “curiosity” and the Country of Focus was the Philippines. With a huge variety of exhibitions on selected illustrators, as well as workshops and seminars for potential and budding talents, it was a celebration for art and book lovers.
Min and Ying attended the festival on different days and had wonderful experiences meeting various illustrators and book publishers and engaging with the local scene. At every moment, in every corner of the festival area, something was happening: a storytelling stage for kids and families, a closed-door discussion for festival holders, book-signing sessions with authors... It is safe to say that Min and Ying had plenty to feast their eyes on!
Min was also invited as a guest at the 'Illustrators' Portfolio Review', where she reviewed the artwork of illustrators and provided advice as an experienced artist agent. Meanwhile, Ying had the opportunity to sit in on workshops on children's literature and illustration styles, enhancing her knowledge of the art industry.
We also celebrated the wins of two Yeon artists, Rachel Batislaong (Cheng) and Winna Citra Lanidya, who were both selected for this year's exhibition gallery. Cheng was selected for the 'Country of Focus: Philippines' category, while Winna's artwork was selected for the 'Open Submissions Gallery'. We're extremely happy to see our artists shine across borders and have their work transcend regional boundaries, and we can't wait to see what more they do. You can check out Cheng's portfolio here and Winna's portfolio here. If you wish to work with them, you can contact Min to find out more.
We'd like to thank AFCC 2024 for putting in the continuous effort to support Singaporean and Asian literature by inviting wonderful experts and veterans of the scene to share their stories and experience. Once again, thank you Singapore Book Council for the invitation to attend AFCC 2024 and we'll be anticipating AFCC 2025!
