Q- What is your role at Yeon?
Gillian - As an artist agent, I curate a diverse portfolio of talented illustrators and support their professional growth in the industry. And I collaborate with clients to understand their artistic needs, ensuring a strong fit between artists and projects. My role is to connect the right artists with the right clients, fostering successful partnerships.
Q- Can you share a bit about your background and what led you to your current role?
Gillian - I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Communication from Loughborough University School of Design and Creative Art. I started my career as a graphic artist and designer, where I discovered my passion for connecting with people and bringing ideas to life. Over the next ten years, I developed strong account and project management skills, linking products to audiences and services to clients across various fields. This experience led me back to my true passion for the arts. As an artist agent, I am dedicated to bridging ideas and opportunities within the creative community, empowering both artists and clients to make a meaningful impact in the art world.
Q- What is your favourite children's book?
Gillian - I have so many favourites; my list just keeps growing! Some classics, like Goodnight Moon, Guess How Much I Love You, The Little Prince and The Lonesome Puppy by Yoshitomo Nara. More recently, I was captivated by Hortense and the Shadow—the illustrations are absolutely exquisite. And I can't forget Maybe by Kobi Yamada; it brought me to tears!
Q- What advice would you like to share with aspiring illustrators?
Gillian - Immerse yourself in the styles of work you aspire to create and study what makes them exceptional. I encourage artists to regularly produce new pieces, curate their best works, and showcase them in the context of the commissions they seek, whether that's picture books, graphic design, or fashion illustrations. A positive attitude, consistency, and professionalism are just as important as skills and talent.
Q- What are some of your passions outside of work?
Gillian - Live music, savouring a good cup of coffee, solo travel and taking long walks in parks and galleries.
Q- What’s your favourite way to recharge?
Gillian - I once heard a parenting tip for babies: put them in water or take them outside, and it almost always works. Turns out, that works pretty well for adults too! So, if you see me splashing in the pool or wandering outside, just know I'm following the same wisdom—because sometimes all we need is a little dip and some fresh air!
Q- How do you find inspiration outside of your work?
Gillian - I find inspiration through new experiences, meeting new people, engaging in meaningful conversations or interactions, and learning about our differences.
